Kenya Photographic Safari
11 Days & 10 Nights

Day 1-4

Leave Wilson airport Nairobi, for your 8:30am flight to Nanyuki arriving 9:40am. We will collect you from here, and after a cup of coffee at 'Barnie's' drive to Colcheccio Ranch where our camp is pitched, in a glade of 'fever' trees below the Naibelebele dam. Arriving in time for lunch, our drive to camp will have already revealed what is in store for us for the next 4 days.

Based from here, the list of what we can do is endless (no National Park rules to abide by). Photographic opportunities are immense. Wildlife, birdlife, the local tribes (Maasai, Samburu, Pokot). The Ewaso Nyiru River forms part of the eastern boundary of the ranch, and is a 'lifeline' in the drier times, coupled with an extensive dam system. There are no boundaries here, simply drive onto the neighbouring ranch( with permission) and carry on our quest. Mugie Ranch to the west has a black rhino breeding programme. Impala Ranch further South is the centre for the 'Predator Project'. Run by the Smithsonian Institute, various studies are made on both the herbivores and carnivores of Laikipia. All this to see and do,combined with the essence of being on a real safari. Bush BBQ's, walks, river swims, night game drives, pretty much anything you choose to do! Indigenous species you see in this area include Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk, Grevy Zebra, Greater Kudu in addition to the birdlife.

Day 5

Samatian Island, Lake Baringo: Drive West across the Laikipia plateau and gradually drop down the Eastern side of the Rift Valley to Lake Baringo. Samatian Island situated in the heart of the lake, is our stop over for the next two nights.Operated, by Ross and Caro Withey, nothing lacks imagination here. Birdlife here is prolific, as well as the hippo and Nile crocodile population. The Il Chamus, an offshoot of the Maasai, fish this lake off their coracles, and the Pokot tribe exist in the hinterland.

Day 6

A day trip visit to Lake Bogoria, another Rift Valley lake. South of Baringo, but very alkaline in nature, Bogoria is a 'soda' lake. Home at times to millions of flamingo. Hot water geysers bubble and burst out of the earths crust, feeding the lake with nutrients that the algae, flamingos feed on,also nourish. This is good area to find Greater Kudu in the rugged Southern section of the reserve.

Day 8-10

Our next drive via Kenya's tea growing country to the Maasai Mara. Meet up with our camp again. We have various different concessions within the Mara ecosystem, so choosing which camp we use, will be dependent on where most of the game is concentrated. There is no better place to view wildlife than here, in terms of numbers and variety. The predators are to an extent, relatively habituated to vehicles, which makes for a photographers paradise. Their concentrations are unparalleled anywhere, and depending on the time of year, the wildebeest migration could be moving through. The migration is much bigger than just the wildebeest and herbivore movements. With it come vultures, nomadic predators, river crossings, and much more!! Days made around eveybody's requirements.

Day 11

After breakfast, transfer to the nearest airstrip for the 11:00am flight back to Nairobi.
